Yes. We offer both introductory and 12 month plans in most areas. For either type of plan, there is no cancellation fee or early termination fee for residential customers. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with your clean energy supply, you can cancel at anytime without penalty. If you are in a contract with your current energy supplier, you should check if there are any cancellation fees.
In short, supporting new renewable energy development costs more than delivering polluting energy. For most consumers, the biggest factor determining the size of their bill is the amount of electricity they use.
Ethical Electric buys clean, renewable energy on the open market. Like any other commodity, energy prices fluctuate. We buy the most affordable, regional clean energy available to us. If the price of renewable energy goes up on the market, it will go up for our customers on variable plans. If it goes down, our customers will pay a lower price. If you don’t want a variable price, we offer fixed price plans as well, which allow you to lock in a fixed rate for the length of your contract term.
No, your service will not be interrupted when you switch to Ethical Electric. Your utility will still maintain the wires, prepare your bill and provide reliable service. The only thing that will change is where your utility will get your electricity from: solar and wind sources supplied by Ethical Electric.
Yes. No new equipment or home visit is required.
When you switch to Ethical Electric, you will continue to receive your bill from your current utility as you normally would. Ethical Electric’s name will appear on your bill as your supplier after service has started.
No, we do not charge any fees to switch to Ethical Electric. However, you may want to check if your current supplier has any cancelation fees.
If you currently receive and pay your electric utility bill every month on your own, then you have the power to switch to Ethical Electric without approval from your landlord. But if you live in an apartment building or condo where all units’ electricity usage is rolled into one bill and paid by the landlord or condo association, then you would need to convince the person who manages that utility bill to switch to Ethical Electric. We would be more than happy to talk to them about this switch, if you refer them to us. Have them email email@example.com.
After signing up with Ethical Electric, your utility will usually switch your supplier to Ethical Eletric on your next meter read date. This is typically 15-40 days after you enroll with Ethical Electric, depending on where you live. Once you sign up with Ethical Electric, you can track your clean energy start date on your online account.
Prior to signing up with Ethical Electric, we recommend that you refer to your current supplier’s terms of service to ensure there is nothing required of you, such as a cancellation fee payment. If your supplier does charge a cancellation fee, please contact our Customer Service team at 1-888-444-9452. We may be able to pay part or all of your fee, or schedule your signup for a later date.
Once you've signed up, we arrange everything. Ethical Electric will notify your utility company that you have chosen to source your electricity from clean sources. If you are receiving supply from another alternative supplier, your utility company will notify them that you have chosen to switch to a new service provider.

American homes get their power from a mix of energy sources. Electricity generated from coal, nuclear, oil, natural gas, wind, and solar all goes to the same grid. To keep track of the electricity generated by “green power” sources like solar and wind, the EPA created Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). For power to be officially considered “clean,” it must be matched with RECs. All the electricity Ethical Electric customers use is replenished with 100% wind and solar energy. When you become a customer of Ethical Electric, you'll be supporting clean, renewable energy sources, from wind and solar, every time you pay your power bill. Ethical Electric purchases renewable electricity on behalf of our customers, in the form of grid power plus renewable energy certificate (REC). We also work to support the growth of the renewable energy market, using the power demand of our customer. By becoming an Ethical Electric customer, you’re helping to reduce the amount of polluting fossil fuels.

Energy deregulation gives consumers the power to choose the supplier of their electricity. This means that while the consumer’s power lines are still maintained by their local utility, the consumer can choose what company supplies their electricity.

If you have chosen a fixed price plan, you can expect the rate of your electric supply to stay the same for the initial term of your agreement. After the initial term, your rate will vary with market conditions from month-to-month.

No, you will continue to receive a bill from your current utility. Ethical Electric will appear on your bill as your supplier after your service has started.
You will continue to receive your bill from your current utility, but within one to two billing periods of signup, you should see Ethical Electric listed in the electricity generation supply portion of your bill. If you have a question about the electricity generation supply portion of the bill from Ethical Electric or think that there may be an error in your enrollment, please contact us at 1-888-444-9452.
Once you sign up with Ethical Electric, we submit a request to enroll in our service to your local utility on your behalf. Occasionally, the utility will not accept the request. Common reasons for the utility not accepting the request include sending an old or incorrect account number. If you signed up and do not yet have service with Ethical Electric, find a copy of your most recent utility bill and contact our Customer Care team at 1-888-444-9452. We can often resolve the problem and resend your request to the utility.
Your local utility issues residential & commercial electric bills and, in most cases, will handle all payments and collections.
Delaware customers with unpaid Supply Charges may receive a notice for payment of these charges from Ethical Electric. Commercial customers, in all states, may receive a notice for payment of Early Termination Fees. Ethical Electric currently accepts checks and money orders for payment of these charges. Checks and Money Orders should be made out to Ethical Electric, Inc.
Payments received for supply charges for customers outside of the state of Delaware will be returned to the customer.
Since your local utility issues residential electrical bills and oversees collections, your local utility also establishes the policy about late payments and can provide you with that information.

Your local utility company typically handles all billing and collections. If you cannot pay your bill, please contact your utility company directly to discuss payment alternatives.
Ethical Electric does not provide budget billing for its supply charges. Your local utility may offer budget billing for your entire bill, including Ethical Electric's supply charges. Contact your utility to learn more about their budget billing program. If you are currently on a budget billing program with your local utility, be sure to contact your utility prior to signing up with Ethical Electric to determine if you will continue to be eligible for their budget billing program.
Payments for your utility bill should be made directly to your local utility by following the instructions on your bill.

Once you've moved, your local utility will determine your last date of service with Ethical Electric. Your electric supply will be provided by Ethical Electric until your last date of service. No. Anyone can tell their friends about Ethical Electric and earn rewards for referrals. But we’d love for you to also get your power from us too.
You can refer anyone, though because Ethical Electric has an ever-growing number of states where we are able to deliver power, not everyone is eligible to get their power from us. You also cannot refer yourself and you don’t get credit for adding additional service addresses to an existing customer account.
No, although if you’re able to get 24 or more people actively enrolled in a calendar year ($600 bonus or more), we do need to send you a 1099 tax form.
The first thing you should do is register for an online customer account. Once you’re registered, you can choose a unique referral code and URL, along with a set of social sharing tools that you can use to invite your friends to switch.
The most important thing your friends can do to help you get your reward is to enroll using your referral code or referral URL and maintain an active account with Ethical Electric.
Yes, the people who you refer are eligible for a one-time $25 enrollment reward after they successfully enroll on service.
The reward is earned when your friend enrolls (is successfully processed by Ethical Electric and the utility). You should receive your reward 6-8 weeks from the date they enroll. We send rewards every two weeks, so the turnaround time is quite short!

Absolutely. Climate change is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, like coal in most electrical power plants. When you switch to clean, local, renewable energy from Ethical Electric, it means that you will no longer be dependent on burning dirty fossil fuels to get the electricity you use. You’ll be reducing the amount of pollution that goes into the atmosphere and decreasing the total demand for dirty energy sources - thus helping stop climate change.
But that’s not all. By switching to Ethical Electric, you increase the demand for 100% wind and solar power in your area. Ethical Electric customers are helping us get off of dirty power sources and become more reliant on clean energy.
Community Solar is a new way to receive the financial benefits of rooftop solar. The main difference is instead of paying to place expensive panels on your own roof, a group of households get together to support a centralized solar farm. That’s much more efficient than building hundreds of different rooftop systems, and it’s available to renters and homeowners who can’t get, or don’t want, rooftop solar for a number of reasons. Community solar offers many of the same financial benefits as rooftop solar, without the hassle of installation or maintenance of panels on your roof.
Ethical Electric builds new solar farms in your area with a limited number of memberships available for each farm. Qualified residents of the utility area where the farm is built are eligible to become members. In return for a monthly membership fee, the solar power produced by the farm will be applied to your utility bill in the form of credits.
There are three main benefits to Community Solar:
Typical subscribers will save 5-10% off the amount of their membership subscription. So, for example, a typical subscriber who pays $90-$95 in monthly membership fees could receive $100 in credits against her utility bill. Over time, this can really add up.
Actual savings will depend on the applicable utility rates as established by your Public Utility Commission (PUC), the actual production by the solar-electric farm, and the specific terms of your agreement. Of course, no one can predict the future, so savings cannot be guaranteed for all projects, although they are likely to occur.

No. Nothing will be installed at your house, and we maintain the system. There is no home improvement project required to join a Community Solar farm, nothing gets installed on your roof, and it doesn’t matter whether you own or rent.
Community Solar doesn’t have the limitations of rooftop solar—if your roof is shaded, faces the wrong direction or can’t support solar panels, it doesn’t matter. Plus, you don’t need to own your home. Renters can also participate. With Community Solar, you can receive the financial benefits of solar power without worrying about the hassles of ownership like maintenance.

We have a number of projects under development, and we are evaluating additional suitable locations based on state rules, available sunlight, and other conditions. If you move within your utility’s service distribution territory, just let us know and we will reassign your subscription to your new address. If you are moving outside your utility’s service distribution territory, your agreement will allow you to either transfer your agreement (see below) or we will transfer your agreement on your behalf after a notice period and with an administrative fee.
Yes. Your agreement will have terms to transfer your agreement to another subscriber within your utility’s service distribution territory, subject to the new subscriber meeting our credit requirements.
No. Your local utility will continue to supply your home with electricity just as it does now. You will not be changing your utility, energy supplier or the type of energy powering your home.
You will continue to pay your power bill as you do now, but your total will be reduced by the value of the Community Solar credits generated during each billing cycle. We will invoice you for your Community Solar subscription and offer convenient electronic payment.

Yes. Each Community Solar farm has a unique agreement due to differences in each location. Specific terms, such as expected savings, will vary from farm to farm and are subject to change. It’s important to read the terms of your agreement carefully so you know all the specifics before signing up.
